As a wedding photographer, I practically swooned upon the discovery of these beauties. Nothing makes a beautiful wedding gown sing more than when hung on one of these! One of my brides, Shanna, who got married this spring had one for her wedding. Check it out below:

On Monday you can say goodbye to this blog. It's obviously not being used much anymore. I thought it was about time to retire it. We're starting a new life down in Jupiter, FL and sometimes a new life means letting old things go!

Just a little note to say we're still here, still very much alive, still very much in business, and still very much wanting to connect with you all! The thing is, this blogging stuff has been on the back burner. I promise it is for a really good reason!

Solutions Bridal Jim Hjelm Trunk Show - Gainesville, FL Event Photographer

We were delighted when Jessica @SolutionsBridal invited us to be a part of the Jim Hjelm bridesmaid dress trunk show. Their dresses are simply fabulous and there are so many styles that can easily be worn again without looking too "bridesmaidy". They've still got plenty of styles that are bridesmaidy & absolutely gorgeous.

Check out some of the dresses and the lovely ladies of Solutions Bridal. The skilled staff helped brides and their discerning moms and bridal attendants narrow down the choices.

Of course, Solutions - a Gainesville Bridal Boutique has gorgeous bridal gowns out the wazoo in all kinds of styles. Accessories and shoes to the delight of the brides.

A lot of brides came in to try on wedding gowns or have their mom or attendants try on some of the fabulous Jim Hjelm dresses. We even got to see a bride find *her* dress. Oh and the shoes. Dang Gina, if they don't have some HOT shoes there.

i {spy} - inspiration - now, that's how you do royal purple

LOVE this inspiration board by Lucky Designs. Purple is such a gorgeous color but you rarely see it for weddings outside of it's lighter lilac and lavender shades. I'm ready to see it bold and paired with some yummy fall oranges and creams.

Second Shooting - Gainesville FL Wedding Photography

A few times this year I've gotten the opportunity to assist/second shoot with a couple of great photographers, Karlin Connell and Mary Beth Tyson. Besides being awesome photographers with FABULOUS brides, they're pretty fun to work with and learn from. So here's a few of the photos I've caught while working with Karlin a couple of weeks back in Indiantown.

This kid was focused on me the whole way walking towards the aisle!

I love Florida outdoor weddings! So much life and light!

Karlin got an AMAZING shot of this scene (on her blog), so I put my spin on it from one side. The horses were so pretty, but later one tried to lick my head (without permission).

These two were really enjoying their day and I was glad to be a small part of it.

Karlin was absolutely thrilled to have her picture taken. I'm sure she'll post a flattering pic of me at some point in retaliation now... :)

This guy was my kinda people. Just sayin...he rocked the party!

Anyhow, I loved working with those two and look forward to more collaborations in 2010!

The bridal party hung out and wet their whistles with some Old Chub from Oskar Blues in Lyons, CO. David and I have been there! *drool colorado*

every guest got an adorable crocheted flower favor PLUS chocolate covered espresso beans. yum!

there were SO many adorable children at this wedding.

this photo was taken with available light by David at the same time I took a photo of something else with the flash. This is what we got. I don't think we could do that again if we tried. hmm...

after a while, the dancing queen arrived and entertained us until she passed the boa on to the bride, who wore it fabulously and delighted her nephew.

Autumn & Adam Full Preview Part 1- Gainesville Interlachen, FL Wedding Photographer

Yahoo! So, we're making headway in the editing, and couldn't wait to share some gorgeous photos from Autumn & Adam's wedding held at Autumn's family home in Interlachen, FL. They had wonderful help from precious family and friends with an amazing eye for detail, creativity, and how to make people feel at home.

first, here is a pic of the table decor in progress. check out the hearted pumpkin and the crocheted flowers. how flippin' sweet is that?

magnolias are so fuzzy and soft - love the "budding" symbolism too.

Autumn's family is so.... family! This image embodies how they feel to me.

First looks are for lovers.

Paxico Via Mexico did the music and boy was it something. i felt right at home with their lilting tunes.

David grabbed this as Autumn whooshed by in all her glory on the arms of her mom and dad.

have you ever seen a bride so happy to see her man?

This is one of my favorite images. it just looks like she's an angel awash in the glory of God. I'm just sayin'! (David caught this one)

this was SUCH a moving ceremony. the whole bridal party surrounded them and covered them in prayer and blessing during communion.

Do you think their children will have curly hair?

Formals were a blast including light, bling, more light, and quick dashes out of the frame :-)

Mountain Biking in Tsali, NC

So while those of you at the Wedding Expo got to meet Jemma and her lovely assistant Jillian, you missed out on the other half of Jemma Coleman Photography- me! David Coleman. Why would David miss such an awesome opportunity to meet all you lovely brides? Well, turns out I had a trip planned long before the bridal show to go mountain biking in North Carolina with family and friends. It was super rad, if a bit wet and muddy, but gnar was shred (which is a good thing) and memories were made. I snapped a few pics with the little camera during the times when I wasn't muddy or wet (which wasn't often).

Driving 8 hours after a day at work stinks, but I almost wanted to stop and take pics of this sunset from the roadside. Almost.

Four days in the tent. Sore back, but enjoyed the great outdoors with the starry view at night. The Jetta averaged over 36mpg for the trip, which is not bad for having a muddy bike on top of the roof!

The world is thankful Daniel is no longer sporting a mullet, but the stache is pretty…uh….awesomely terrible?

No, this is not an optical illusion: those abs are not from hours in the gym.

Busted lip: In case you’re wondering, no, the handle bar does not taste good. Oh, and this is me, in case you didn't remember me from the get to know us cards at the expo.

Quite the motley crew, but they didn't give me too hard a time for being a Florida fan.

Hated to leave a place as pretty as this, but all good things must come to an end!

Look out for future adventures of david and jemma! When we're not working, we try to do cool stuff.

{know that} - waiting for photography: {first look} {day after} and {getting creative} with schedules - Gainesville, FL Wedding Photographer

starting yet another "column" on the blog. this one titled {know that} in the effort to provide brides & grooms, vendors, and blog-stalkers with useful information about photography.

please leave comments, questions, and your own ideas so we can all share in the {know}. don't hold back. say what you say.

With so many brides and grooms wanting to spare their guests the wait while their photographs are taken after the ceremony, there are always requests to speed the photography along accompanied with a realization that all those photographs they want simply take time. A tricky situation, but we have some thoughts that might help...

There are usually three things that you want:

1. "We want lots of gorgeous photos and especially portraits of just the two of us, preferably in several different locations."
2. "We want the first time we see each other to be when I'm walking down the aisle."
3. "We don't want our guests to have to wait a long time for us at the reception."
(let's assume for the sake of argument a long time=over an hour.)

Realistically, you can pick two out of three things you'd like or get creative to make up for the other one. Read on to hear how we help our clients figure out what works best for them.

1. You can avoid seeing each other before the ceremony and have lots of amazing photos afterward, but your guests will have to wait a little while for you to get there, or you'll need to skip out on some of the reception in the middle of it.
possible solutions: cocktail hour; entertainment at the reception; have both ceremony and reception at the same site to cut down on time traveling between the two; if you're having a mid-day wedding, take some photos toward the end of the reception or afterward (great chance to catch sunset!); sneak out while everyone else is still working on their meal and grab some more photos then.
cons: extra costs of cocktail hour or entertainment; missing out on parts of your reception; hair and make-up not looking so hot after most of the reception for the later photos.

Here are some of Julie & Richard's portraits that were taken here and there before & during the reception.

2. You can see each other first at the ceremony and get to your reception on time, but you won't have a chance to do many photos and you may feel rushed.
possible solutions: pick a ceremony site that you can also have the reception at with a lot of variety in shooting locations, giving you the most opportunity in the most compact time and space, have a {day after} session and get dressed up in your duds again for some photos before you jet off your honeymoon; have a {days after} session - when you're back from your honeymoon, get dressed in your duds again (maybe even funk it up and wear something different) and gallavant around multiple fun locations to capture those shots.
cons: possibly paying for hair, make-up, and tux rental again, added cost of extra photography

Here are Dan & Sereen's {days after} portraits. Sereen changed up her hair and jewelry and Dan had a few wardrobe changes to change up the feel of the photos. They were able to do their shots in Waldo, which expressed another part of their personalities.

3. You can get lots of photos and make it to the reception on time but you'll have to see each other before the ceremony.
possible solutions: a {first look} session - make it your own, plan it out ahead of time or be spontaneous. pick a lovely location and have the groom waiting with his back turned and the bride come in, announce herself or tap him on the shoulder while the photographers shoot with a long lens to capture this beautiful, private moment between the two of you. Alternately, you can set it up with family and friends looking on if you still want the moment to be shared with your loved ones. We'll be shooting this way at our next wedding & we'll add photos to this post, so check back with us in mid-November! Either way, after the first look, you can get on with the romantic shots with the two of you, take bridal party shots, and maybe some family photos, provided you have informed them that you'd like them ready early.
cons: breaking a tradition.

i {spy} - craft project! - the dress & the shoes for the {expo} - FINALLY!

I was pretty excited about my outfit for the Gainesville Wedding Expo at the end of last month. After all it took me a ton of searching and trying on, returning, exchanging, and looking online and all over town to find what I wanted.

Because I was determined to match my branding, I was convinced I needed a yellow dress. And I wanted one with a poufy skirt. And I didn't want a lot of bare skin showing. I could thrill you with stories of my escapades, but I'll just get to the point. It had basically come down to me wearing a cute gray dress I'd found at Urban Thread with a bright yellow scarf and silver sandals or a JCrew halter dress I'd also found at Urban Thread and some cardigan I was desperately trying to find.

As I was taking one last look through the racks I came across a yellow dress that was definitely two sizes smaller than what I'm wearing these days. Even so, it looked a little larger than advertised, so I thought, what the heck, I'll see if I can squeeze into it. Just for giggles. And crazy enough it fit me!

I was so excited, I didn't even notice that I'd dropped a receipt in the dressing room for three cardigans I'd picked up from Ross - hoping to make them work with the halter dress. The sales ladies were happy for me and listened to me blather on about how I needed the dress for a wedding expo and yada yada yay yay yay! I gave them some of my cards!

After purchasing the dress and my fabulous shoes (I fell in love with them after having used them to try on everything at the store), I got in my car to find a parking ticket DOH! and headed to Butler Plaza. Aaaaand, I left my credit card on the counter. By the time I got to Ross across town, I realized I didn't have the receipt. Nice enough, the sweet girls at Urban Thread called me (they had my biz card) to tell me I left my credit card and so I finished up my shopping at Target and headed back to pick up my lost items. They even found my receipt! What customer service!

My fabulous JCrew shoes. So lovely, no?

Next, to complete my outfit, I thought I needed a little something extra. I'd been itching to do some crafting and saw this fabulous craft project on 100 layer cake and traced it back to Heart of Light for the details.

I printed out my instructions and got to work!

For my belt, I chose double-faced satin ribbon and picked up the fabric from the remnants bins. I chose a couple extra fabrics from the bolt to increase the diversity of textures.

I also bought some colorful fabric in case I changed my mind and wanted to do something a little different. I think I'll try this on my next craft date with a friend.

Trying it on to see how it fits. OH YEAH, I forgot to mention that my dress has POCKETS! Dresses with POCKETS are my best friends.

SO easy to do and I have tons of petals left over. I'm thinking of making them into something ridiculous like bloomers. Any crazier ideas?

More Melrose Wedding - Gainesville, FL Wedding Photography

Marion & Russ's wedding was a country home affair with an overlay of elegance. Set in historic Melrose, FL at a friend's vintage estate overlooking Melrose Bay, Old Florida charm was in every detail.

Marion's good friend Kelly Brown took care of the floral arrangements for the day and they were to die for. I'm in love with the colors.

Pretty excited to be in her dress! I wonder why...!!

Marion & Russ chose to do a {first look} before the ceremony, after which we got some lovely portraits. We'll be posting some more details about first looks later on. Stay tuned!

Russell's nieces and nephew were the cutest kids ever!!! And have you seen a more fabulous flower girl dress? Apple green silk shantung, so fab.

I love seeing the taste and style of my brides come to life in their weddings. Loving the classic champagne & ivory dresses with the vibrant bouquets & jewelry. A special post on the jewelry coming soon!

To continue the charming country feel, Marion & Russ' reception included handmade quilts, strings of C9 lights, contra dancing, a live band, and handmade party balls. And of course for Russ, GO GATORS! One of the most adorable Gator cakes I've seen!

Because we were working on our birthdays this summer (david's is July 24th and mine is July 25th), we were out of town. My mum really wanted to hang out with us for the day, but alas, we were in Orlando and that's almost a three or four hour drive for her. Fortunately we were able to get together a little bit later on. While she was here, we went to see Julie & Julia which was a totally cute movie and great for us to watch together. We went out to get some food at Panera (yum!) and later went back to the house to hang out. David took a little time to snap some mother-daughter photos of us and here are a few of my favorites!

Kasey & Mike - Ft. Pierce, FL Engagement Portraits

We're so excited to have Mike back with us after being in Iraq for several months (Kasey can tell you exactly how long it was!) and since we were hanging out with the family in Ft. Pierce, we decided to take a few more engagement photos. While the sun wasn't out to play, David and I tried to make a little light where there wasn't any, a trick we learned from a workshop we recently attended. This past Sunday was the Gainesville Wedding Expo put on by Jay's Bridal. We were thrilled to be able to represent ourselves at such a fabulous event. What is a "wedding expo"? Basically it is a gathering of wedding related vendors all in one place for brides and grooms and moms and dads and maids and men and ... well you get the point. We're all there together for your shopping convenience!

So there we were, me (JEMMA!) and my fabulous friend Jill who agreed in all her eight-months-pregant-glory to assist me that day in flagging down brides as they zipped and zoomed through the maze of vendors enticing them with truffles and lemonade and a free engagement session giveaway!

Everyone LOVED the truffles my pal Jake made (I know, I've been trying to convince him to go into biznaz for them....) and were refreshed by the lemonade we had to offer. yum! We had on display some of our favorite photos and our fabulous flush mount and coffee table albums were on our other table.

Lucky for us we were right next to the fabulous {U}nique Designs, a wonderfully creative invitation and other fabulous paper goods studio. They had such a useful and chic display, isn't it something? yes those are little shelves protruding out perfectly to display all the goods.

here is my girl Kenya from Unique Designs feeling the "heels all day? um... brb!" and also managing to be very fly at the same time... ;-) of course.

here's my lovely assistant Jill, looking rockin' in her polka dot dress and turquoise wedges. she totally went all out for me.

Me in my yellow dress that I took FOREVER to find, but it ended up being perfect! You can sort of see my new snazzy shoes I'm wearin'. What you can clearly see is my flip flop in the background!! haha! Yeah, I may have been wearing those for a lot of the day.... um, just sayin'. I'm planning to post a little more shoe love as well as about my handmade belt later on this week. Did I mention I'm into craftsiness?

The preparation for this event was quite the whirlwind. Since it was my first wedding expo, and because my lovely husband happened to be out of town on a mountain biking trip he'd had planned for a year, and I signed up for the show only three weeks before (lucky me!) I had a LOT to get together in a LITTLE amount of time. If you know me, you know I'm very much into details, so it was an all out shopping-and-returning-fest the weeks leading up to the show. I was really stoked with how it all came together.

One of my last purchases and probably the most fun to put together were my flowers! I whipped up these little bouquets just before the show started after getting the blooms the night before at Fresh Market. So much fun to do, and really not that difficult!

And this post wouldn't be complete if I didn't also mention my lovely pals at MasterPiece Weddings Here is Erinn, Kari (helping out Unique Designs that day) and Amanda (who does great modern calligraphy).

especially fabulous Melissa who was nice enough to tell me about the event and how to get involved. You rock Melissa! (Apparently, she knows this... just look at her!)

They come in several sizes, my favorite is the 8.5x11 horizontal for the guestbook, pictured here:

I'm also able to make duplicates of the larger albums with these books for your family share albums. Check out how wonderful they look as they lay flat and have the tiniest gap between their perfectly lined up pages!

Both books have the option of getting a leatherette, fabric, or photo cover. The gallery guest book starts out with 20 pages and the family share duplicate also with 20 pages. David and I got to go out to Alachua to the home of such a cool family! I work with Sarah at Meridian and she has been such a wonderful friend and encourager in my time there. Sarah and Cameron are expecting a baby boy in just a few weeks and Cadance is pretty excited to get to love on her little brother in person. It was hot as you would expect for a June midday in North Central Florida with nary a breeze, but you wouldn't even be able to tell with how wonderful this family looks in their pics. We were so excited to do a family trip this weekend in Atlanta to go and see Ben Folds (awesome!) and we decided to try to use the awesome ATL backdrop for some engagement pics for mike & KC. Unfortunately it pretty much rained the entire time David and I were there, so we didn't actually end up getting to go out and do many pics. We ended up doing almost the entire shoot at the end of the hallway of Clay & Elizabeth's student apartment which had awesome natural light which we supplemented with a little bit of flash. The rest was done in the parking garage attached to their dorm. This shoot was very fun because it challenged me to focus entirely on my subjects to create the image and make it good. Here are a few of my faves. :-)

So lately, with it being winter and all, I've been spending less time taking photos and more time editing! Today I felt under the weather and just like me, even though I was home sick from work, I couldn't stand not to get something done!

So today I edited pics from Jocelyn & Jeremy's wedding and my work friend Virginia & Chris' wedding (my poor friends have to wait so long!) since I'm caught up on the business work! Check out Jocy & Jeremy's full ceremony shots here. You just can't compare to that Colorado beauty! I can't wait to get started on their formals & reception shots! It was a really good time!

Virginia & Chris' wedding we attended as guests, but of course, couldn't resist an opportunity to hone our skills, use our new Metz flash, and get some great pics! You can see their whole slideshow here. See the post below for some pics with more pizzazz.

It's getting warmer, so that means more weddings! We're very excited to be getting so many inquiries this year and already are booked for three weddings this spring! We have another potential wedding or two this fall and it's exciting to see the business slowly start to grow. Of course, there is always more equipment to buy and we're really hoping to get to attend a conference or retreat perhaps by the end of the year.

Heather's water broke at about 4:30am yesterday morning. She was having contractions all day yesterday and after I got off from work and had gotten some dinner & a minute with David, I stopped by the hospital. Despite all Heather's contractions, there wasn't much progress in dilation. I went home to get some sleep & told them I'd come back when it got closer. I got a call this morning about 4:25am that she was at 10cm and would be starting to push soon! I got up, grabbed a Dew and a CLIF bar and headed to the hospital. I got there in plenty of time to watch Heather & Justin welcome their baby girl into the "outside". :-) They haven't settled on a name just yet, but we've all settled on the fact that she's here and is a keeper for sure. Here are a few shots of the sweet girl!

Ft. Pierce, FL Fashion Portraits - I love my seester!

So we went down to Ft. Pierce for Labor Dabor Weekend & got to meet with Clinton & Fish to show them the final album designs and our wedding album as well, which is the same kind we're getting for our clients now. We are soooo excited to make it for them! Whee!

It turned out Felicia felt sick as a dog so we weren't able to do her photoshoot in her weddin' dressin's. Naturally I was a teensy bit bummed, but lo and behold Kasey Rene Coleman loves me and came to my rescue. She put on her Senior Prom Poufer Pink Princess Dress, let me fix her hair in sweet curls, sported some converse all-stars, hot blue eyeshadow, and fancy jewelry and we had us some good times!

I also just started playing more in big girl photoshop using some neat tools I found. I'm pretty happy with the results!
